Low water pressure is incredibly frustrating, especially when trying to take a shower or run appliances. Understanding the cause is the first step to fixing it, as it can range from a simple blocked filter to a major hidden leak.
Main Causes of Low Water Pressure
- 1.Hidden Water Leak: Check your water meter. If it is spinning while all taps are closed, you are losing water underground or inside a wall. You need professional water leak detection immediately.
- 2.Limescale Buildup in Pipes: Very common in old galvanized iron pipes used in Spain decades ago. Over time, rust and limescale close the diameter of the pipe, restricting flow. The only definitive solution is to replace the old pipes.
- 3.Faulty Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV): If the pressure is low throughout the entire house suddenly, the PRV at the main inlet might have failed.
- 4.Clogged Aerators: If the pressure is only low in one specific tap, unscrew the tip (aerator) and clean out the trapped limescale and debris.
