In hospitality, presentation is everything. Serving a good wine in a glass that comes out of the commercial dishwasher opaque, cloudy, or with dried white droplets is a guarantee of complaints and bad reviews.
If your glasswasher machine has stopped leaving glass sparkling, the problem is usually in one of these three factors:
### 1. Lack of rinse aid or broken dispenser Rinse aid doesn't provide magical shine; it breaks the surface tension of the water. It makes the water slide off the glass without leaving drops. If glasses come out with marked drops, check that there is rinse aid liquid in the jug and that the dosing tube (the clear little tube) is not blocked or pinched.
### 2. Excess limescale in the water (Water Softener) Madrid generally has relatively soft water, but in certain areas or old installations, limescale can be an issue. If glasses come out with a diffuse white haze, it's limescale. You need to check if the dishwasher's water softener has regenerating salt.
### 3. Insufficient rinse temperature For dishes to dry quickly and hygienically, the final rinse water must come out at about 85ºC (185ºF). If the heating element of the internal boiler is covered in limescale or has burned out, the water will be cold, the detergent won't dissolve well, and the glasses will come out wet and opaque.
### 4. Clogged wash arms Remove the rotating wash arms (top and bottom) and check the holes. They often get clogged with toothpicks, lemon seeds, or food debris, preventing the water from hitting the glasses with pressure.
