Is it Bad to Flush Wet Wipes Even if They Say Flushable?

80% of the severe drain blockages we attend to are caused by wet wipes. Discover why the packaging is misleading you.

You see a pack of wet wipes at the supermarket and read clearly: *"Flushable"* or *"Biodegradable"*. You trust it, use them, and flush them down the toilet. Months later, the toilet overflows, and you have a sewage flood in your home.

What happened? The industry told you a half-truth.

    ### The myth of "flushable" wipes Yes, technically they are biodegradable... but they take months or years to break down. Normal toilet paper is designed to disintegrate within minutes of touching water. Wet wipes are made of interwoven fibers (often plastic or tough cellulose) so they don't tear during use.

When you flush a wipe, it travels intact through your pipes. If there is the slightest imperfection, tight bend, or tree root in the drainpipe, the wipe snags.

    ### The sewer monster One snagged wipe catches the next one. Add soap, hair, and fats to the mix. In a few weeks, a solid mass as hard as cement forms, completely blocking your home's or your building's main sewer line.

At PowerPro Madrid, 80% of the emergency drain unblocking services we perform with high-pressure water jets are the direct fault of wet wipes.

    ### The golden rule of the toilet Only 3 things should go in the toilet: urine, feces, and toilet paper. Everything else (wipes, cotton swabs, tampons, dental floss) must always go in the trash can.

Does your toilet flush slowly, bubble, or does water back up into the shower tray when you flush? You have a blockage forming. Contact PowerPro Madrid. Call us or send a WhatsApp for professional emergency drain unblocking before your bathroom floods.
